Competition in Mobile Phone sector

From the time that Kenyans decided not to rely on Safaricom ltd as the only mobile phone service provider in the telecommunications sector, competition has relatively gone up with more reduction in calling tariff charges. Technology in Africa has shown great potential to further make the lives of most cell phone users affordable. IT in Africa has also attracted more multinational companies to invest in Africa.

Mobile phone subscribers in Africa continue to enjoy more affordable call charges as the IT sector in Africa continues to thrive. Technology in Africa is promising to an extent that multinational companies like Vodaphone and Zain have invested heavily in the technology sector in African economies.

It is presumed that mobile phone users will relatively enjoy even lower tariff charges in the coming days. One of the operating mobile service providers competing with Safaricom in Africa particularly Kenya is orange network. Orange introduced a significant development of technology in Africa given its pricing strategy aimed at lower income earners. Mobile subscribers on orange network enjoy affordable call charges across other networks.

Another aspect of technology in Africa is data communication using the internet. Unlike Safaricom who’s cheapest data bundle is 40Mb worth Ksh.250, orange has reduced its charges with its lowest data bundle rates at only Ksh.150 for 50Mb. It does not take too much knowledge to note that orange is more preferred.
